Thinking White Backwards: Disrupting Missionary Culture in Zambia through Photography
Edith Chiliboy, Patrick Chilaisha, and Kerstin Hacker propose a workshop across two late afternoons, that will creatively discuss the rupture introduced by missionaries on Zambia’s culture.
The workshop aims to instigate a visual conversation between the religious objects and modern everyday life in Berlin. It will ask the participants to question how these objects can influence their understanding of coloniality and missionary practices on the African continent.
On the second day, we will review the photographs with the participants and use craft techniques that will repurpose religious objects into pre-missionary artifacts.
